Prowadzone przez Fundację Kultury i Dziedzictwa Ormian Polskich Archiwum Polskich Ormian jest przenoszone z dotychczasowych pomieszczeń piwnicznych przy ul. Dewajtis do położonego w samym centrum Warszawy przestronnego lokalu przy ul. Zgoda 4. Nowa siedziba jest lepiej przystosowana do potrzeb archiwum oraz osób z niego korzystających. Na przełomie września i października tego roku Archiwum Polskich Ormian prowadzone przez Fundację Kultury i Dziedzictwa Ormian Polskich przenoszone będzie z tymczasowego lokalu do takiego, który jest lepiej dostosowany do potrzeb archiwum oraz osób pracujących w nim i odwiedzających, z trudno dostępnych Bielan do centrum Warszawy!
Aby można było się w nim ulokować konieczne jest przeprowadzenie części prac adaptacyjnych zalecanych przez archiwistów–konserwatorów, które polegać będą między innymi na oklejeniu szyb foliami, wyłożeniu podłogi wykładziną, wymianie drzwi w pomieszczeniach magazynowych, malowanie, itp. Wszystko to po to, żeby zapewnić odpowiednie warunki przechowywania zbiorów. Chcielibyśmy zrobić wszystko we wrześniu, by na przełomie września i października zorganizować przeprowadzkę (żeby nie płacić za dwa lokale). To będą prace wykonane własnymi siłami i środkami.
Przy przeprowadzce potrzebna będzie pomoc – przy pakowaniu i samej przeprowadzce. Wolontariusze są bardzo mile widziani. 

A new spring Awedis has been issued. In A Remark from the Editor we can read as follows:

The Armenian society is facing a test. On 1st April the National Census of population and houses began. Its results will determine the official image of Armenians in Poland within the next ten years, as well as strongly influence our perception of ourselves. Let us see it as a chance to mark our constant presence in the Republic of Poland, and an unrepeatable opportunity to gain knowledge about Armenians in Poland AD 2011. The Census form, developed as referred to the form from the year 2002, allows us for the expression of our Armenian identity regardless of whether our ancestors came to Poland five, fifty or five hundred years ago. Therefore, “Let us count!”, as all Armenian organisations in Poland appeal in an unprecedented common Letter.

However, first of all, Armenians consider April to be a month of reflection and national memory.  The year 2011 is special, as on one day the joy of Resurrection extraordinarily combines with the pain of Mec Jeghern, a great tragedy which struck the Armenian nation at the beginning of the previous century. Awedis informs about the anniversary celebrations and travel to Armenia a day before the Apocalypse. “Where are you/You, the sounds of trumpets and sonorous dulcimer?” Klaudiusz Anet quotes a timeless poem by Omar Khayamma.  We particularly recommend an interview with a Turkish historian Halil Berktay who is telling about hope for a change of what the most painful for the Armenians, the policy of Turkish denial of Holocaust.

As a year has passed since a new hierarchy of parishes in Poland was created, we have published an interview with a parish priest of one of them. Rev. Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski is telling about the status of the Armenian society in the Southern Poland and the achievements of the past. We were also trying to enrich this issue with an interview with Rev. Artur Awdalian, a parish priest from Warsaw, however the priest refused to be interviewed for our magazine.

Moreover, Jakub Osiecki from Yerevan reports the excesses of Black Gago, Prof. Ara Sayegh, meticulously enumerates the Sundays of the Armenian Medz Bahk, Jakub Kopczyński describes the liturgy of the Apostolic Armenian Church, and Roma Obrocka praises the Armenian hospitality.

Ukazał się kolejny, jesienny numer "Awedisu". W Słowie od redakcji czytamy:

Sierpień 2010 roku okazał się miesiącem pożegnań. Niemal równocześnie odeszło kilku zasłużonych członków naszej społeczności. Zatrzymajmy się przy Nich na chwilę. Skłońmy głowy przed Ich niezwykłymi, bogatymi życiorysami. Uśmiechnijmy się do Ich umiłowania ormiańszczyzny. Ale też zastanówmy się, czym wypełnić pustkę, która po Nich została…

Nie zapominajmy przy tym o kolejnych pokoleniach pasjonatów kultury ormiańskiej. Grupa takich zapaleńców zdecydowała się na rzecz niezwykłą – zaznaczyć ormiańską obecność pod Grunwaldem w 600. rocznicę bitwy. Ten z pozoru szalony pomysł nie tylko wcielili w czyn, ale też zamienili w pełen sukces, przy okazji dobrze się bawiąc. W tym numerze „Awedisu” publikujemy obszerną relację z pól grunwaldzkich, głos oddając Szymonowi Lechacemu i Panu na Taczowie – Adamowi Domanasiewiczowi.

Warta odnotowania jest też konferencja naukowa zorganizowana z okazji jubileuszu Ormiańskiego Towarzystwa Kulturalnego. To najstarsze istniejące stowarzyszenie grupujące polskich Ormian i ich sympatyków obchodzi 20. rocznicę powstania. Na przestrzeni lat rozwinęło bujną działalność edukacyjną i popularyzatorską oraz, co ważne, aktywnie ją podtrzymuje. Oby tak dalej!

Ponadto Manana Jaworska podsumowuje wakacyjne badania sytuacji Ormian w Iranie, prof. Andrzej Pisowicz rozprawia się z ormiańskimi imionami, dr Paweł Nieczuja-Ostrowski dokłada swój głos w dyskusji nad obecnością Ormian pod Grunwaldem, a ormiańskie gospodynie przedstawiają wszystko, co chcemy wiedzieć o chorucie (a boimy się zapytać).

Ukazał się kolejny, zimowy numer "Awedisu". W Słowie od redakcji czytamy:

Trzymają Państwo w rękach piąty numer naszego czasopisma, zatem jesteśmy razem już ponad rok. Z tej okazji Redakcja dziękuje za życzliwość, której doświadczyła od Czytelników i  której wciąż odbiera nowe dowody. Szczególnie wdzięczni jesteśmy za Państwa uwagi i opinie na temat „Awedisu”, gdyż pozwalają one nieustannie zmieniać pismo na lepsze.

W bieżącym numerze nowością są dwie stałe rubryki – „Widziane z Erywania”, czyli armeńska korespondencja młodego naukowca Jakuba Osieckiego, oraz „Z Posłańca Św. Grzegorza” – swoisty wehikuł czasu, który przeniesie Państwa w przedwojenny świat polskich Ormian. Niestety, nie wszystkie zachodzące zmiany są zmianami na lepsze. Dlatego na spotkanie z – nomen omen – awedisami zaprasza Zbigniew Kościów, a Mikołaj Mojzesowicz w przedwojennym artykule barwnie opisuje Boże Narodzenie u Ormian w Kutach.

Kto jednak nie lubi marznąć, może westchnąć do upalnego, kuckiego sierpnia, czytając zapowiadaną w poprzednim numerze relację z letnich obozów wolontariackich dla ratowania cmentarzy ormiańskich na Kresach Wschodnich, lub pocieszyć się opisywanym przez Edgara Broyana ociepleniem w stosunkach polsko-armeńskich.

Ponadto otwiera się Wirtualne Archiwum Polskich Ormian, prof. Ara Sayegh przybliża słynny zwyczaj madagh, a prof. Krzysztof Stopka zaprasza na XVI-wieczne ormiańskie pyrogi, choć nie ręczy za ich smak.

In a Word from the Editor we can read as follows:

The current time has been full of events important for the Polish Armenians. Undoubtedly, the most solemn moment was the long-awaited re-burial of the Archbishop Józef Teodorowicz who came back to a modest grave at the Cemetery of the Defenders of Lviv, as indicated in his last will. The archshepherd was bidden farewell in Lviv by Polish Armenians and others who made pilgrimages to the city of Semper Fidelis from all over Poland. Bogdan Kasprowicz gives an account of the unique expedition.

Those who care about the unity of the Armenian community in Poland should pay attention to gestures of mutual friendship made by the clergymen of Armenian Apostolic Church and the congregation of the Armenian-Catholic rite. The joint silent  march on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the ecumenical event of unveiling Gliwice khachkar, the holy mass for Polish Armenians in the Armenian cathedral in Lviv and mutually kind statements combine into a one coherent and very promising whole. In this context we recommend reports from Gliwice and Warsaw, as well as an interview with Dadżad Tsaturian, a clergyman of Armenian Apostolic Church, and a Polish Armenian Priest.

Kuty tradition of church fairs on St Anthony’s Day (13 June) is being revived in Gliwice Armenian Church. And we are going for an expedition to pre-war Kuty with Stanisław Donigiewicz and Rev. Sarkis Egulian to see for ourselves how the fair was celebrated those days.

Moreover, Jakub Osiecki from Erywań is considering the future of Nagorno-Karabagh, Prof. Ara Sayegh visits Armenia and describes with admiration the baptism of 18-year-old Arman, and Roma Obrocka visits Galina Asatryan in Armine, a Wrocław restaurant.

More news, more announcements of forthcoming events, most of them in both language versions. “Awedis” is changing to meet the expectations and needs of our readers.

Possibly the most significant event of the last months was handing over the facsimile of the Gospel book from Skewra as a contribution of Polish Armenians to the famous Matenadaran Institute in Yerevan. This emphasised that the Armenian legacy in Poland is an integral part of the Armenian culture. 

Many Armenians who live in Poland contend with a problem of unregulated legal status. Therefore, it is extremely important to spread information about the forthcoming amnesty for foreigners, the most liberal one of all announced within the last 20 years. For them, it is a real chance for normal life in a new fatherland. 

The legacy of Polish Armenians is for many of us a great reason for pride in the Armenian origin. This does not contradict the Polish patriotism, which may be confirmed by the figure of “The Unknown Soldier’s Mother”. It was Jadwiga Zarugiewiczowa, a Polish Armenian who selected the coffin to be buried in the Unknown Soldier’s Grave so special for the Poles. This quite unfamiliar fact was finally commemorated in a form of a memorial plaque set near the place of national memory.

Moreover, Jakub Osiecki from Yerevan reflects on the past on the 20th anniversary of Armenian independence, Armen Artwich provides a report of a great Armenian exhibition in Wrocław,  Rev. Cezary Annusewicz reveals the connection between Catholicos Karekin II and St Peter and Paul Church in Gdansk, and Bogdan Krzysztofowicz takes us for a time travel to “Mons Pius” Armenian bank in Lvov.

The 10th, jubilee issue of Awedis has already come out. In the Letter from the Editor we can read as follows: 

We hereby provide you with the spring issue of Awedis. This is the 10th, jubilee issue of our magazine. On this occasion we have prepared a present for our readers – an Armenian culinary map. We hope it will facilitate permanent contact with the rich, aromatic Armenian cuisine, and encourage those of you who have never tasted it to make up for this unforgivable failure as soon as possible. Bon appétit!

April is coming with not only Surb Zatik (Easter), but also a date known by each Armenian – 24th April, a tragic, symbolic anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.  We encourage to participation in the anniversary events held on these days in many Polish cities. 

The year 2012 was announced the Year of the Armenian Book, therefore we wish to familiarise you with the subject matter of the Armenian alphabet and literature. To begin with, we publish a collection of Armenian proverbs, as well as the reference text of Lord’s Prayer in the Old Armenian (Grabar Armenian) language ready to cut out. We hope it will be of use during Armenian Masses. It is also worth learning the text of the prayer by heart! 

Efforts are being made to restore the memory of Rev. Wiktor Kwapiński, one of pre-war Armenian-Catholic clergymen. His unique and intricate life is reconstructed and described by Monika Agopsowicz. We are encouraging to support the initiative to commemorate this brave clergyman, the patron of Awedis.

Moreover, Jakub Osiecki makes an attempt to summarise the current pontificate of Catholicos Garegin II, Maria Staszałek reports on an exhibition of works by visual artist Suren Wardanian, and Prof. Ara Sayegh explains what Juliusz Słowacki and Steve Jobs have in common.

 

Eleventh , summer issue of “Awedis” had been published. In “the word from the editor” we read:

In Venice, 1512, Hakob Meghapart had printed out a 124 page, illustrated book. It was the Urbatagirk (or “The book of Friday”) – The first book printed in Armenian language. This year we commemorate  the 500th anniversary of this event by celebrating the Year of the Armenian Book. For this occasion UNESCO announced selecting Yerevan as 2012 World Book Capital City, and around the world will be expositions, symposiums and courses dedicated to Armenian culture and literary production.

This event is widely presented in an article written by professor Ara Sayegh, and as we want that the Year of the Armenian Book to be noticed by the largest number of readers, we encourage to learn the Armenian alphabet. On page 13 you can find useful learning materials. We encourage you to keep and use them!

Polish Armenians should also be notice two other important events – recently ended abolition and soon to be announced results of the last year’s census. Abolition will help hundreds of our fellow countrymen living in Poland to “come out of the shadow”, and thanks to the number of abolition requests applied it will be possible to tell an approximate number of Polish Armenians. The actual numbers are very divergent. Further information about this case in the next issue of “Awedis”. Central Statistical Office  had betoken an early publication of the results.

Moreover we relate this years commemoration of the anniversary of Armenian genocide, reminisce Anna Stefanowicz and Tadeusz Kura, Bogdan Kasprowicz unveils unknown episodes from Father Karol Bołoz Antoniewicz’s life and using Romana Obrucka’s pen, Anna Abrahamowicz pleads: “Steniu, do not lose those beans!”
